Just got back from Lucky where I picked up a couple things. They had closed the self check-out. Only three lanes were open. They were all backed-up. I tried to get the checker's attention about it but she never heard me. So I got brave and yelled THREE IS A CROWD!!
Then someone immediately responded and got on the intercom and called for another checker to come to the front and open up a check stand. The other shoppers in line all thanked me. Suddenly we all were able to get through real quickly.
Then a young man opened up Number 7 and said he'll take the next one in line. Everyone felt resolved to let me go. What a deal! It pays sometimes to have a big mouth. But I knew that THREE IS A CROWD be their protocol from a time when I worked for them at another location.

Getting a Boost on New Years Day
Today The Goodwill is open today. I went in and came out with four pieces of apparel. I call it my Candy Store or Toy Store, depending on my mood on a given day.
Today's visit was special, given that it's New Years Day. The store was far less crowded and shopping felt more relaxed. Another lady was in their trying on outerwear. She was a size XL. I forget how it was I began to engage with her but I found myself helping her shop. It was quite fun and she was receptive.
Oh yeah! Now I remember! As she was trying on jackets, she was hanging them so that they were draped across the rack and hiding other hung cloths under them. I asked if they were hers and she said she was just trying them on. I would tend to get disgruntled when I would shop and someone would leave clothes hanging like that without putting them back properly. It would seem discourteous.
But this time no one fussed and I found pleasure in helping her locate jackets, coats and sweaters that looked becoming on her. As it is, I think she bought every one of them. It made me feel so good to have helped someone look their best. I told a person who works there about it. Talk about a boost! That is a fine way to begin a new year!

What A Fine Find!
I stopped at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in South San Francisco to do some belated holiday shopping when I stumbled upon a beautiful man's purple pullover sweater. It was a size XL. I called my mother and described it to her and asked who it might be appropriate to give it to. She said to save my money and to wish well whoever ends up with the sweater.
Well, I continued my shopping and looked at some hats. A light green hat caught my attention and I noticed the label said Smith & Hawken. I tried it on but it was a little large for my head. I asked a nice looking young man nearby who was also looking at hats his opinion and brought up about the label.
It led to an interesting conversation about gardening and the Hori Hori as I told him about how I was once directed to Smith Hawken to try to locate one and my experience with working with them at Denver Botanic Gardens where I used to volunteer. It turned out this young man knew exactly what I spoke of because he is into agricultural gardening and just learned about the Hori Hori too. He told me of a store in the East Bay that sells them too.
Then, I remembered the purple pullover sweater I found earlier and told him about it. He was interested in seeing it. So I took him to it and he liked it. Here he is wearing the sweater. It made my day!
